The Carroll Motorsports team recently concluded competition for the 2009 season.  The year had many “ups and downs” as is typical of racing.  The team began the year with a brand new car and managed to race to the front of the pack on opening night and have their night end in disappointment when overheating problems lead to a DNF.   Unfortunately, the overheating lead to terminal engine damage and set the tone for what became a difficult season.

The following several weeks, the team called upon its faithful back-up car and motor from the previous season and managed to run very respectably.  The team won several preliminary races and finished well in the feature events, but did not secure the much desired victory.

After a few weeks, the team found an upgrade to their motor situation and managed to bring the new car back out for competition.  Bad racing luck and a few nagging mechanical issues haunted the team for much of the season.  The mechanical bugs were very typical problems that anybody goes through when they build a brand new race car.  Unfortunately, the bad racing luck should not be.

Through hard work and persistence, Andy and the team was able to overcome the struggles and secure back to back feature victories around the mid-season mark.  Overall, the team secured six helmet dash victories, two heat race victories, two feature wins, and three fast qualifier awards.  One of the fast qualifier awards came at the season’s biggest event, the Hy-Miler Nationals, when 37 of the best modified race cars from throughout the state were there to compete.

The season ended in a similar fashion to the beginning of the season.  The team was involved in more hard luck situations that cost them several opportunities to win.  It seemed like every time the team was headed to the front, another driver’s error became the Carroll Motorsports teams’ problem.

In a recent conversation Andy stated, “I feel so bad, because I have the best group of guys on this team that I have ever had go racing with me.  My dad puts his heart and soul into this operation, as do several others on the team.  This year was a case where the best car and team just couldn’t catch a break.  I go to bed every night and wake up every morning questioning my own performance and wondering what I could have done differently or better.  My guys deserve to win a championship and I am going to do whatever it takes to go out next year and win one for them!  I refuse to allow another year to be spoiled by the negligence of somebody else on the race track with me.”

The team will be hard at work this winter preparing for next year, where it plans to compete again at the Sandusky Speedway on a weekly basis.
